Investigations to date have not been successful in recovering the ECD. We discovered quickly that the individual chemist with ownership of the ECD retired in November of 2021. We were in the process of performing our most recent wipe test last month (February) when we discovered the ECD and its host GC were no longer in the lab they were being used in. The ECD in question was last wiped in August.
#Nrc reactor oversight process license
We are required by our license to perform wipe (swipe) tests every six months. We have a number of ECDs in use at our facility as addressed below for customer support and R&D. "Agilent Technologies manufacturers ECDs, containing 15 millicuries each, of Ni-63 for use in Gas Chromatographs (for generation of ionized atmospheres for chemical analysis).

The following information was provided by the licensee via phone and email: The NRC Resident Inspector has been notified. This follow-up NRCOC notification is a retraction of EN 55574." This condition complies with ASME Section XI requirements and is therefore not reportable. Analysis identified that the leakage likely originated from an adjacent threaded compression fitting on a tubing joint. On, based on laboratory analysis of the affected CET tube section, FPL Engineering determined that there was no pressure boundary through-wall leakage associated with this event. "On EN 55574 reported possible evidence of pressure boundary through-wall leakage observed on a Core Exit Thermocouple (CET) tube. The following information was provided by the licensee via email: * * * RETRACTION ON AT 0849 EDT FROM DAVID STOIA TO MIKE STAFFORD * * * "The NRC Resident Inspector has been notified.

"This event is being reported pursuant to 10 CFR 50.72(b)(3)(ii)(A). "Measures have been taken to establish Mode 5 for corrective actions. "At 1605 EST on 11/12/21, it was determined that the RCS Pressure Boundary does not meet ASME Section XI, Table IWB-341 0-1, 'Acceptable Standards' due to a through wall leak of the Core Exit Thermocouple Nozzle Assembly. Lowey (D-NY) and House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Chairwoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH).EN Revision Text: REACTOR COOLANT SYSTEM PRESSURE BOUNDARY DEGRADED (D-NJ), House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy Chairman Bobby Rush (D-IL), House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. The letter was signed by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. “Given the significance of the proposed changes to the ROP, we request that NRC hold a public comment period prior to Commissioners voting on any changes.” “We understand that, in the coming weeks, NRC staff will provide to the Commission recommendations for proposed changes on the ROP,” the letter said. The lawmakers requested that the NRC hold a public comment period before its Commissioners vote on the proposed changes and notes that the Committees will seek a briefing from the NRC on its proposals. Cutting corners on such critical safety measures may eventually lead to a disaster that could be detrimental to the future of the domestic nuclear industry.” It would be a mistake to attempt to make nuclear power more cost competitive by weakening NRC’s vital safety oversight. “That is why we are disturbed by the consideration of these far-reaching changes to the NRC’s regulatory regime without first actively conducting robust public outreach and engagement. “To ensure nuclear power provides safe, reliable, emissions-free energy, it is imperative for the NRC to uphold strong regulatory standards,” the letter said. Specifically, the Committee leaders raised concerns with three proposed changes: replacing NRC inspector assessments with industry self-assessments reducing core safety inspections and reducing the significance and public reporting of “white” findings. The Committee leaders raised concerns with several changes to agency safety protocols which are currently under review and criticized the Commission for not gathering input from the public and interested stakeholders before considering the potential changes. The ROP program monitors and manages the performance and safety measures that govern nuclear power plants. Leaders of the House Energy and Commerce and House Appropriations Committees sent a letter Monday to Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Chairman Kristine Svinicki expressing concerns over proposed changes to its Reactor Oversight Process (ROP).
